I am an approachable and helpful University of Exeter undergraduate studying English who would love to help local students improve in their studies. Although I am studying english, I have enjoyed learning french so much that I will be taking advanced modules in it alongside my degree so as to become near fluent. Therefore I see myself to be a qualified tutor for younger pupils.
With languages, vocabulary is one of the crucial elements, and I can pass on my tips for memorising words. However, perhaps more important is grammar, and depending on the age of the pupil this would be a large focus of mine so as to improve accuracy. I would also spend time working on both oral and written comprehension, using exam questions for my pupils to practise with, something that usually leads to a vast improvement, and hopefully enjoyment.
I am well qualified in french, having achieved an A* at GCSE with full marks in both the listening and reading papers. I also achieved a grade A at A-level, with exceptional marks in my speaking. I am continuing the study of french at university to try and become fluent.
I have experience in tutoring, having recently done GCSE level tutoring for two girls in geography, with both pupils exceeding their target grades and achieving a B and a C. I tutored another in GCSE maths for a year, and she ended up enjoying the subject much more than originally, and achieved a grade 6 in the new system, whereas she had previously been worried about failing and having to retake at college. I also have experience tutoring younger students, as I tutored two girls of 13 and 10 in maths, and ensured they understood the work they were doing for their internal school exams. They both said they felt a lot more confident at the end!
