About Soumya
I hold a Master’s degree in Film Directing and have hands-on experience across different stages of filmmaking. I have written, directed, and edited multiple short films, worked as an Assistant Director on an independent feature, and worked on storyboarding for two feature films. I have also worked in sound on multiple short projects as a sound mixer and boom operator, giving me experience across both the creative and technical sides of production.
I have been editing for around 10 years and have a strong working knowledge of professional editing software, including Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. I have also taught filmmaking to children aged 6–11, guiding them through storytelling and creative filmmaking projects. Alongside filmmaking, I have my own podcast about film writing and have served as an online film festival juror. My theater experience has also helped me develop a deeper understanding of directing and working with performers.

My lessons are designed to give you a well-rounded understanding of filmmaking, from developing a story and writing a script to directing and bringing it to life on screen. We can explore narrative and storytelling techniques, dissect scenes to understand why they work, and learn the fundamentals of scriptwriting and screenplay format.
I’ll also introduce you to the different creative and technical roles that come together to make a film, including cinematography, sound, lighting, production design, costume, makeup, and editing. Along the way, we can explore world cinema, different approaches to filmmaking, and most importantly, help you develop your own voice as a filmmaker.
Whether you’re completely new to filmmaking or already have some experience, I’ll help you understand how the different pieces fit together and give you the tools to approach filmmaking with greater confidence.
