- BSc Hons Mathematics (2:1) from Queen Mary, University of London in 2013
- Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in 2014 from IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society which has consistently ranked first in world university rankings for education
- Maths teacher at a grammar school for over 5 years (including 2.5 years as 2nd in department) before moving to one of the top private schools in the country for 1.5 years
- Taught all ability levels from KS3 right through to A level Further Maths
- Tutoring experience of KS2
- Enhanced DBS checked
One of my aims with tutoring is to make the student feel comfortable and to work at a pace that suits them. I will never rush them and it does not matter to me how many times we need to go over the same topic. Building confidence and understanding is key, the exam results will come as a consequence.

Explicit tutor led instruction should be much more than simply lecturing.
I do not believe anyone is “bad” at maths, they just need the right support to build their confidence and understanding.
A great deal of research suggests that the most effective way to help students learn is through 4 key elements and I have certainly found this to be the case in my own teaching career.
Explaining - Sometimes, only showing “how” to do something is not the most effective way for students to learn. Of course it does have its time and place but research shows that understanding “why” will lead to greater success when faced with unfamiliar problems.
Modelling - Research has shown that choosing examples is just as important as the explanations that come with it. Having taught for over 7 years I have an excellent idea of where students difficulties are likely to lie, which is why I carefully choose examples and questions which gently tease out misconceptions and cement understanding.
Scaffolding - Every lesson informs the next one and is thoroughly planned in advance and tailored to each students individual needs. Resources gradually build in difficulty and are specifically chosen to steadily and thoroughly make progress.
Practising - There is plenty of practise time for the student in each and every lesson.
Quite simply:
The more maths they do, the better they will get at it.
This was evident in my own teaching and is one of the easiest and quickest ways to improve.
In the first lesson I will speak with your son or daughter to find out how they currently feel about maths and their aspirations for the subject. They will then complete an initial assessment to identify areas of strength and areas to work on.
