About Ella

I have dedicated my academic and professional career to the social sciences. I achieved an A* in A-Level Sociology before graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Sociology and Criminology. I then completed my PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at UCL, specialising in Social Sciences.

For over six years, I have taught and tutored Sociology and Psychology, working with students across a range of abilities and backgrounds. My teaching career began in the state sector, where I progressed to become Head of PSHE and Relationships & Sex Education, leading curriculum development and supporting students both academically and pastorally.

I now teach in a highly competitive independent school as Head of Psychology, where I deliver A-Level Psychology and Sociology to ambitious sixth form students. Alongside my classroom teaching, I am also an AQA examiner, giving me valuable insight into how examinations are marked and what distinguishes the highest-achieving responses.

My combination of academic achievement, leadership experience and classroom expertise allows me to provide students with high-quality, engaging tuition that is both academically rigorous and tailored to their individual goals. Whether you're aiming to improve your confidence, boost your grades or secure an A or A*, I have the knowledge and experience to help you succeed.

My approach to tutoring is centred around the individual student. Every learner has different strengths, areas for development and ways of working, so I adapt my teaching to suit their needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on the student, I may work from the bottom up by strengthening core knowledge and skills before tackling more challenging content, or from the top down by focusing on exam technique and identifying specific gaps in understanding.

My lessons are interactive using visual aids, supportive and exam-focused. I use a combination of clear explanations, guided practice, retrieval techniques, exam questions and regular feedback to build both confidence and subject knowledge. I place a strong emphasis on helping students understand WHY answers are correct (skills-based), rather than simply memorising content, so they can apply their knowledge independently in assessments.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although I can also offer longer sessions for students who would benefit from more in-depth support, particularly in the lead-up to examinations. All lessons are delivered remotely, providing flexibility and convenience while maintaining a high level of interaction through shared resources and live discussion.

I have over six years of teaching and private tutoring experience, alongside Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I currently teach and am Head of Department for Sociology and Psychology in a competitive, independent secondary school and have extensive experience preparing students for A-Level examinations. I am also an AQA examiner, giving me valuable insight into exam expectations, marking criteria and the skills required to achieve the highest grades.

My tutoring is primarily aimed at sixth form students studying A-Level Sociology and Psychology, whether they are looking to improve their understanding of the course, boost their confidence, or achieve top grades in their final examinations.
