About Craig
I'm a patient, approachable teacher who genuinely enjoys helping people find their confidence with a new language. I know that learning a language can feel daunting at first, so I try to create a relaxed atmosphere where it's okay to get things wrong — that's how you learn. I adapt my teaching to you rather than sticking rigidly to a textbook, mixing up activities and finding topics that actually interest you, and I always give honest, encouraging feedback so you know exactly how you're doing.
I've spent 20 years teaching languages because I love the way learning a new one opens up a different way of seeing the world — new ways of thinking, new cultures, new connections with people you'd never otherwise be able to talk to. I speak French, German and Spanish myself, and I still remember what it's like to be a learner, which shapes how I teach: through real conversation and genuine communication, not just rote grammar drills. I want every pupil I work with to leave feeling a bit more confident than when they walked in, and to see language learning as something exciting rather than a chore.

Teaching methodology & techniques
Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) — building learner confidence to take risks with language rather than drilling grammar in isolation.
Learner-centred, differentiated materials tailored to each student's level, learning style, and goals.
Needs analysis at the outset: establishing CEFR starting level, setting objectives, agreeing a personalised study plan.
Balanced focus on all four skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking), with attention to grammatical accuracy and spoken fluency.
Ongoing formative and summative assessment with regular feedback to track progress.
Use of interactive digital tools and platforms to keep sessions engaging (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Google Classroom, Figma, Whiteboard.chat)

320-hour TEFL certification (The TEFL Org), covering exam prep, EAP, teaching online, young learners, business English, neurodiverse students, and AI in the TEFL classroom.
Experience as a tutor
20 years teaching French, German and Spanish in Scottish secondary schools (National 3–Advanced Higher).
Online ESL & French tutor, Findlay Tutorials (Oct 2025–present) — one-to-one online tutorials.
Self-employed EFL tutor for adult learners (Oct–Dec 2025) — small-group ESL across CEFR levels, employability-focused.
