About Nadia
Hi there! I am a High School Junior living in Cambodia, a small country in Southeast Asia. I work with my family at a community center we have founded, where we teach agricultural foundations, English as a second language, and Christianity. I am homeschooled with a GPA of 4.0, and starting from thirteen years old, I have progressively worked to nearly complete my first year of college. I study Khmer (the language with the longest alphabet in the world!) and French full-time as second and third languages. I have many years of experience working with children, including teaching English to young students, and math tutoring. Some fun things to know about me are that my favorite color is green, I love to paint, crochet, and dance in my free time, and I believe that the best thing in the entire world to eat is fresh, homemade bread with butter! Having studied in a very rigorous school program, I understand what it is like to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, and frustrated with homework assignments. I have spent many hours crying over math equations, not because I wasn't capable of solving them, but because I didn't know what to do! I feel very passionate about reaching out to students who are in this same scenario that I was. The truth is, you CAN do anything as long as you are motivated and taught things in a way that you can fully grasp. When these two things are lacking, you feel let down and discouraged in yourself. I want to help change this. I am well suited for students who need emotional support and desire things to be taught in a simple, easy-to-understand way. My goal is for students to have fun and look forward to working with me through tough concepts, and build confidence and motivation in themselves, no matter their age.

I enjoy using colorful infographics, games, and creative approaches tailored to the student’s specific needs and goals in order to help them learn and remember things faster. With many years of experience working with young children, I want students to view me as their ‘big-sister’, someone who understands their educational needs and is willing to help them unlock their potential in the most fun and engaging way possible. Oftentimes, adult professors can be intimidating to work with, which is why the ‘peer-tutor’ model is an amazing way to increase confidence and academic performance for both ends! I am well suited for students who lack faith in themselves and need extra support overcoming difficult challenges. I am very passionate about teaching in an-easy-to-understand, work-your-way-up-from-the-bottom style, because by using this way, you will find that you actually grasp and retain the information that you learn! In my tutoring lessons, we will take apart difficult concepts, whether it consists of basic first-grade English grammar or of advanced polynomial long division, and together we will rebuild our understanding of them. Depending on the specific goals of the student, most lessons will be structured in a way that consists of an initial assessment of the subject, a very short lesson, several actively and verbally worked through examples, and finally some practices, which may include games. This basic outline is of course adaptable and can be completely thrown away if the lesson calls for it! English lessons will include reading, writing, comprehension, and critical analysis. Mathematics will be made up of all levels of primary math, tailored to the student, and will incorporate practice problems which will be solved together and alone until the student feels proficient on the subject. Levels include everything from kindergarten to eighth-grade. I am a homework tutor, which means spontaneous questions can be asked at any time, and we can work on homework problems together!
