About Tom
I hold a BA in Modern Languages from the University of Sheffield and an MA in Translation Studies, with a strong academic foundation in French and Spanish grammar, translation and linguistic analysis. As a professional translator, I work regularly with both languages, maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
I understand the demands of GCSE and A-Level exams and tailor my lessons to align closely with syllabus requirements and mark schemes. My approach is organised, supportive and focused on measurable progress, ensuring students feel confident, prepared and fully supported in their learning.

Whether you're preparing for GCSE or A-Level French or Spanish, or just beginning your language journey, I can help you build confidence and achieve your goals.
Having sat these exams myself, I understand how overwhelming they can feel. With the right structure, consistent exposure and clear exam strategy, languages become far more manageable — and even enjoyable.
My lessons focus on strengthening core grammar, improving listening and reading skills, and developing structured speaking confidence. I tailor sessions to each student’s needs, targeting specific weaknesses and building the skills required to perform well in exams.
I can support you with:
Clear and structured grammar explanations
Translation techniques
Exam strategies and mark scheme guidance
Structured speaking practice
Vocabulary building tailored to syllabus themes
Listening and reading comprehension strategies
Lessons typically range from 45 to 90 minutes depending on level and preference.
