About David

Different Approach. Higher Standards.

For students who do not thrive under a one-size-fits-all approach, school can quickly become a negative feedback loop: overwhelm leads to avoidance, avoidance leads to guilt, and guilt makes the next task feel even harder. Over time, this can show up as lower motivation, weaker consistency, and grades that do not reflect the student’s real ability.

My approach is built around creating a different feedback loop. Instead of forcing students through intimidating blocks of revision, I break difficult topics into manageable first steps, help them experience early wins, and use those wins as proof that they are more capable than they realise. Once students begin to feel successful, they often become more engaged, more motivated, and able to learn with far greater intensity.

I understand this pattern from the inside. After struggling with traditional approaches in Year 9, I had to learn how to channel inconsistency, pressure, and avoidance into high academic performance. That shift helped me go from struggling to hit my target grades to achieving top GCSE results, becoming Vice-Captain of Queen Elizabeth’s School, receiving offers from multiple UK medical schools, and continuing to pursue my 3 sports outside academics at a national level.

Now, with 100+ hours of tutoring experience, I use my Decode → Rebuild → Prove method to help students turn negative feedback loops into structure, confidence, and momentum. I have seen this approach work with students who struggle with focus, confidence, or traditional revision methods, helping them feel capable again and turn that confidence into stronger academic performance.

After a free 30-minute consultation, I create a tailored learning plan for each student, with checkpoints every few sessions to ensure steady progress towards their target grade.

Parents receive brief feedback after every lesson, outlining progress, areas to improve, and next steps.

Each 1-hour lesson typically includes:

• Clear explanations of key GCSE concepts
• Guided practice with exam-style and application questions
• Insight into how examiners award marks using real mark schemes
• Identification of weaknesses and strategies to improve them

My aim is to help students approach their GCSEs with clarity, confidence, and strong exam technique. With the right structure and consistent practice, those higher grades become far more achievable.

Having recently gone through the GCSE system myself, I understand the pressures of exam season and what it takes to achieve top grades. It is my mission to prove that getting grades is less about luck, but more about structure.

If you feel this approach would suit your child, I would be happy to discuss their needs further.
