About Susanne
My name is Susanne. I am a native speaker of German and speak it accent-free. We call it "Hochdeutsch". I also teach English - I live in the UK - and French - I worked for a French company for more than 10 years.
I love to share my passion for languages with my students and to witness their progress and their growing confidence.
After an assessment of the student's level, I put together a programme which is tailor-made to their level of competence. Students are encouraged to do some homework. After each session, I send them a summary of what was covered.
Learning a language should be a pleasure! So, I vary my programme to include articles about current topics, conversations about students' life, grammar, work on vocabulary, including idiomatic expressions and typical phrases.
Students have told me that my sessions are fun and that I am a patient and friendly tutor.

I have been a tutor for more than 25 years, because teaching is my passion! I have the German First State Examination for grammar school teachers and a PhD in languages from the University of Bonn. I teach levels A1 to C2 to adults.
My aim is to "ring the changes", as the attention span of most of us is limited to about 20 minutes. A typical lesson of 60 minutes could include the following:
1. Icebreaker: How was your week?
2. Check homework - any need for clarification?
3. I introduce a new topic of grammar and / or of conversation. Students are then encouraged to practice the new structures.
4. Discussion of a topic of student`s interest, e.g. "How to improve one`s foreign language skills".
5. Listening comprehension exercise with questions based on it.
6. Reading of a short story, focus on pronunciation and vocabulary.
7. Anything you would like me to cover!
