About Merrick
I am an enthusiastic and committed flute tutor with 9 years of experience teaching students from school to college level, and I am deeply passionate about both music and education. My journey as a musician has taught me the value of patience, practice, and consistency, and I bring these values into my teaching.
Over the years, I have worked with many students, helping them start from the basics and gradually develop into confident and expressive players. One of my greatest achievements has been seeing my students grow in confidence and perform in front of audiences, which is a rewarding experience for both them and me.
My teaching style is friendly, supportive, and easy to understand, focusing on essential techniques such as breath control, finger coordination, tone production, and rhythm accuracy. I also ensure that lessons are interactive and enjoyable, as I believe students learn best when they are interested and motivated.
I take the time to understand each student’s strengths and challenges, and I adapt my teaching methods accordingly. I strongly believe that music is not just a skill but a powerful tool for personal growth, and my goal is to inspire students to explore their creativity, build confidence, and develop a lifelong passion for playing the flute.

My flute teaching methodology is based on Motivation, Communication, Integrity, and Creativity to provide a meaningful and enjoyable learning experience. I believe that every student can succeed with the right guidance and support. I begin by understanding the student’s level, interest, and learning pace so I can create effective lesson plans.
I motivate students by encouraging consistent practice and recognising their progress. Communication helps me explain techniques like breath control, finger placement, posture, and tone quality in a simple and easy-to-understand way. With integrity, I ensure students learn step by step and build strong fundamentals.
I provide honest feedback and support their improvement. Creativity allows me to make lessons engaging by including songs, exercises, and fun activities. In addition to flute, I also teach basic music theory, rhythm, and listening skills to support complete musical growth.
