About Dean
Dean has been a busy professional drummer and teacher for over 20 years. Originally from Durham, he cut his teeth in the lively northern music scene before touring worldwide as a session drummer. Along the way, he gained honours degrees in Jazz Studies at Leeds Conservatoire and Music Technology at Plymouth University. When gigs were paused in the pandemic, Dean decided to write a book; The Progressive Rhythm Method, a masterclass in odd-time grooves, published by Hudson Music. During his teaching career, he has taught with Durham Music Service, The Northern School of Music and in many schools throughout Devon. He is currently teaching drums at Exeter College.

Dean firmly believes that the key to success with drums is engaging with all aspects of drumming. From learning to read, to performing, locking into the groove and rehearsing with click tracks - Dean offers a comprehensive programme of study with a proven track record. Many previous students having gone on to study music at music colleges and become professional drummers themselves. Dean is happy to teach grades on Drum Kit, from beginner up to advanced performance diplomas, with his own book of repertoire having been approved by Trinity for the L.T.C.L and F.T.C.L diplomas.
