About Jacob
Hello!
I am a Korean-American English Tutor based in Richmond, Virginia. I graduated with a degree in English from the University of Virginia in the Spring of 2016 and currently teach students of all levels, and backgrounds in reading, writing and English as a second language.
I can't say that I've always been very good at English. English class was never my favorite subject in school. I know how difficult it can be especially if it's your second language, as it was for me. My studies of the English language began as I was writing my college entrance essays. Amidst the struggle, I sought help from my 12th grade English teacher. With her guidance, what used to be so frustratingly elusive became clear. Something just clicked. During my days at university I happened upon a quote by writer Ayesha Siddiqi that read, "Be the person who you needed when you were younger." That was a turning point in my life. Perhaps I can be for you what that one, caring teacher was for me.

Our lessons will be designed objectively and tailored specifically for you based on your needs. Every student is at a different stage in their learning and therefore I find it best to make the lessons work towards what the student is trying to accomplish. Whether it's supplementary lessons for school or practicing writing essays for college applications, I can help you improve your skillset. Mastery of the English language enhances your ability to communicate which, in turn, enhances your proficiency in not only a professional setting but in everyday life.

Details
Due to the current climate, all lessons will take place online through Zoom. The rate I am currently charging is $40/hr. Each lessons is an hour long and we can work out the frequency of the lessons depending on your needs. I do, however, recommend at least two lessons a week for better consistency and learning. The details will be discussed during the first 30min free lesson. I have a limited amount of time slots available. Lessons are booked on a week-to week basis with priority given to students who have current bookings.
