About Hazel
Whilst my degrees are both law orientated, my love of English literature and language have nonetheless persisted. I am an avid reader of non-fiction and fiction in my free time, with a particular love for short fiction. Academically, my degrees required me to hone the linguistic, analytical and persuasive skills that I had developed throughout my English Literature (9) and Language (9) GCSEs, and later refined during my English Literature A-Level (A*).
The importance of English Literature and Language with respect to future academic prospects, life-skills and personal enjoyment is therefore not lost on me. My approach to tutoring accordingly draws on all three; I like to combine a student's interests, future plans and personal writing style with the practical, concrete skills that examiners look for.

Having achieved two grade 9s in my English Literature and English Language GCSEs, along with an A* in A-Level English Literature, I personally know what it takes for motivated students to prove themselves during their exams. Applying knowledge and skill in time-pressured exam conditions is not easy; my lessons therefore focus on putting classroom excellence onto the paper that matters. You can expect to cover structure, time strategy, concise essay writing, clarity of expression, unseen analysis and knowledge linking in my lessons.
Whilst I place emphasis on exam technique, you can also expect to return to textual review and contextual knowledge development throughout my tutoring. That said, I am best suited to ambitious students who are aiming for the highest grades (7/8/9) and therefore have a grasp of the basics of examined texts.
