I regard myself as a patient and reassuring figure capable of raising the confidence of my students. Usually I begin by introducing the topic, taking approximately ten minutes; the class becomes more interactive from there. In the final ten minutes, my mission is to ask thought-provoking question to measure understanding.
For the past five months I have been offering tuition to GCSE and A level students. All in all teaching 6 individuals. Exams are currently ongoing, saying that one has noted substantial improvements in their progress- gauged by mock papers.
I possess an undergraduate degree in history coupled with an MA in conflict studies.
September 2016- Present, Teacher Active Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire region.
Operating in primarily secondary schools, I act as a cover supervisor. As a high-achieving history graduate I have proven to be well-suited to taking history, English and R.E classes. Moreover my expertise in languages has led to me being specifically requested by one good secondary school in Derby. Given my past experiences working with students of a similar age; I feel that my interpersonal skills make me a viable candidate for a longer term post in such an environment. I adore the lively atmosphere whilst I also manage tricky situations with diligence when they occur.
September 2016- April, Learning Support Centre, Phoenix Yard, Jubilee Building, first floor, 5 Upper Brown Street, Leicester, LE1 5TE.
Providing academic support to higher education students affected by various disabilities is my prime function. Taking detailed notes on their behalf, coupled with organising their folders are further duties I carry out. The bigger picture as I see it, is to liaise with fellow learning support officers on numerous fronts, with the ultimate aim being to ensure the particular student is fully prepared for the daily rigours of study. Naturally the job requires the utmost discretion, as I have often had rather sensitive information about a student at my disposal. The students I have assisted thus far have noticed improvements in their grades, in part due to my role in creating a revision timetable as well as making succinct notes.
January 2017- May 2017, private tutor in my current residence.
I began tutoring my next door neighbour’s son in GCSE English. It began as a once a week deal, soon becoming bi-weekly owing to his parents’ pleasure in his progress. Word of mouth led to 5 other students seeking my assistance- thus I tutored said students in GCSE history in addition to English.
