About Luke
Hello and welcome! I'm delighted that you've taken the time to visit my profile. I hold a degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and have had the incredible opportunity to share a stage with world-class musicians such as John Adams, Matt Phan and Chris Potter. However, my musical journey wasn't a traditional one—I was a late starter, which led me to discover the power of efficient and effective learning techniques in order to catch up with my peers.
In addition to having the privilege of learning from wonderful teachers, I've nurtured a deep interest in performance and learning psychology. Understanding how our brains process music has allowed me to continuously optimize how I learn and retain musical knowledge. I'm thrilled to share these techniques with my students, whether they are young beginners or experienced musicians seeking to expand their skills.
As a teacher, my philosophy centers around creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students can explore their passion for music and grow at their own pace. Below, in the next section, you can get to know me a little more as a teacher.
I'm excited about the opportunity to embark on a musical journey together, and I trust that in our exploration, I will have just as much to learn from you. If you're ready to take the next step, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out for a trial lesson or to discuss your musical goals. Let's make music together!

What is my goal as a teacher?
Two things that pushed me forward the most have been curiosity and passion. As such, I'm really excited when I see my students' curiosity and passion growing. Of course, when a student is improving musically and technically, I am also quite happy. (As should you!)
What curriculum would you be following?
Every student is unique, both in objectives and personality. Thus, the curriculum is tailored to the needs of each student. Generally speaking, the objectives would be to advance proficiency in learning attitudes, self-expression, technique, and music theory. There are countless ways to teach these topics, but I like to teach it in a way where new knowledge/skills are built on top of existing knowledge/skills.
Can you learn both the piano and the violin?
Yes! In fact, I would highly recommend it. It is easier to get your foot through the door by starting with piano. In the beginning we would focus mostly on the piano, with some very simple violin exercises that build strength and dexterity. By the time you are comfortable on the piano, you’ll have a lot of the skills necessary to have a strong start with the violin, including the skill of reading music.
What genres do I teach?
Let me know what genres you are interested in learning! I have taught many genres including Classical, Baroque, Hindustani, and Pop. It is easiest to learn the violin and piano using a classical foundation, but we will include and learn songs that you like whenever we can! Music is not limited to classical, and there is much to learn from all genres!
What are the expectations for practicing?
For younger students, I prefer working with students who practice regularly. If parents are assisting their children with practice, I encourage sitting in the lesson so that the practicing is a continuation of the lesson throughout the week.
For adult students, I am happy to practice with you during the lesson, even if it is the only time during the week. We'll certainly be serious and set goals, but with a more casual approach, sort of like a weekly drop-in yoga class.
