About Chris
Christopher Josin Chan holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance at the University of Toronto studying under Shauna Rolston Shaw and Joseph Johnson with a full-tuition scholarship. He is currently a cello fellow in the New World Symphony. His awards include top prizes from the Canadian Music Competition and the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. He has given recitals at CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio, Weill Recital Hall and has also performed as a soloist with the Canadian Sinfonietta, Chinese Arts Society of Toronto Philharmonic, and the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra. A passionate chamber musician, Christopher has been a winner of the University of Toronto's Felix Galimir Chamber Music Award, and has participated in Lyricafest, Orford Music Festival, Domaine Forget Summer Festival and was a fellow at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival and Aspen Music Festival. Throughout his university studies, Christopher has been mentored by the Gryphon Trio and, Alban Gerhardt and has played in masterclasses for Johannes Moser, Lawrence Lesser, St. Lawrence String Quartet, among others. Currently, Christopher is pursuing a Master of Music studying under Richard Aaron at the University of Michigan. Christopher performs on a David Wiebe cello, generously loaned by Shauna Rolston Shaw.

I am currently a cellist of the New World Symphony and previously studied with Richard Aaron, one of the best cello pedagogues in the world. Based off of his methods, I will not only teach you the basics of cello but the importance and effectives of practicing. It is important for me to have an understanding of you so that I can cater my teaching around you.
