About Lucas
I am originally from the United States, but I moved to the UK in 2017 to attend the University of St Andrews and have not looked back. I graduated with an MA (Hons) International Relations and Philosophy. I then went on to complete an MLitt Management, also at St Andrews. I am now studying for an MSc Latin American Studies at the University of Oxford. In spite of the countless essays that I have written over the past few years, I am comfortable in academic settings. Throughout my time in academia, I have always been fascinated by arguments and debate. This led me to include philosophy as part of my undergraduate degree, twice sent me to compete at the European Universities Debating Championship, and culminated with a teaching job at a summer school in St Andrews. I found my work teaching to be enormously fulfilling and while I am a full time student, I would like to maintain teaching in my life and continue to share with others all that I have learned.

I believe in teaching the fundamentals. Any student of mine should leave their lessons having improved their writing and worked towards eventually being able to write effectively without my assistance.
I am prepared to teach for up to an hour at a time, although that can be negotiated as necessary.
My extensive academic experience at some of the best universities in the UK has given me the knowledge necessary to teach writing at a high level. I have also worked as a speech and debate teacher at a summer school with students whose ages ranged from 12 to 18, and so I am also prepared to work with students of those ages.
