About Jean
I have a unique style of teaching both English and Maths as I can quickly relate to problems experienced by some learners. I have a great deal of patience and can easily work with learners from diverse backgrounds. Over the last 18 years I have taught over 5000 learners in the Armed Forces at different levels of ability, both phase 2 learners and at officer level.
I believe that teaching is not only about presenting information to the learners but it is important to get to know the learners and their background in learning as this can sometimes lead to barriers in learning. This is where empathy is vital for some learners in order to progress.

My approach to lessons has always been interactive: ie to involve the learners as much as possible. To make a lesson as interesting as possible is paramount in getting the best from the learner. From the planning of the lesson and quickly giving an overview of the key points to be covered to learner participation normally works very well for me. Learners can soon become bored if left to work from books on their own and need the stimulus which group work can give. However, depending on the subject being taught, the lesson would need to be adapted according to time available, the qualification needed and the ability of the learners.
A lesson normally lasts for 1 hour or in some cases 2 hours. The content would therefore reflect the level of the course and the course planning. Most of my learners have been young adults aged 17 - 20. I have also taught elderly pensioners and learners with special educational needs. At all times I have maintained a caring side to my teaching and have been commended for this by one of the Captains at the Army Camp where I recently taught.
