As a dyslexic self taught designer, starting from the very bottom with no design experiences apart from GCSE art in school, I found many ways to learn and adapted my methods to make sure I was able to meet my understanding of the college (level 3 graphic design) basic standards. This was achieved in less than 3 months. Through my self learning I found I had learned far more than what was expected of me at that level. This gave me a huge confidence boost and also developed me from being a shy individual, worried my learning disabilities would hold me back, into the confident and outgoing person I am today.
My aim is to share my knowledge and pass on my experiences in order to help anyone, at any level, improve their confidence and build up design skills at a varied pace.
My teaching methods relate to the individual and their learing abilities. I try to analyse the individual's working style and help them adapt and improve their skills focusing on what is required within the working environment and on what they want to achieve. I base my teachings on enhancing ability and strengthening confidence. This includes pushing and individual to look deeper into their work and analyse what they could do in order to push their ability to the next level.
I am a believer in honesty and constructive criticism and will always give a realistic opinion based on what is required at industry level as I want to push people to reach further and aim for high levels. I found personally, aiming higher allowed me to learn and develop quicker.
I am a mostly self taught BA (Hon) Graphic Design graduate from New College Durham with a range of essential experiences within the working environment and as a freelancer.
I have taught and assisted peers and was selected to teach/guide lower academic level students and develop essential their design skills. I have always been the "go to" for learning anything new, solving problems or even for honest critical feedback. This has been consistant during college for the last 3 years.
My area of expertise lies within branding, editorial and creative conceptual thinking with a good understanding of print processes.
A dyslexic individual who won't allow the condition to effect my learning processes, which can offer a more direct perspective to others who struggle with learning disabilities such as mine.
Throughout my time studying I found the staff was extremely helpful however, I was aways required to teach my self. This is not easy for everybody, which is why I offer direct teaching of techniques, processes, knowledge with essential critiques and task breakdowns.
About little about my self. I enjoy keeping fit in the gym and through sports like football and badminton. I am a social gamer, love traveling, brain teasers and drinking tea!
