About Lucinda

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been tutoring since the age of 18 and have recently had successes with two of my youngest pupils both aged 8 years old. One pupil received excellent comments on their prep test for voice examination and the other received a pass with merit for grade 1 voice examination (both abrsm). I have also taught in group environments; I was a singing teacher at a stagecoach teaching children aged 13 to 18 years old. The children learnt basic technique in singing and an array of repertoire from pop to musical theatre. I also composed a song for the children to sing as part of their christmas play at stagecoach. I have also been the singing teacher at the Sote Academy in the West Midlands where I taught from ages of 6 years old up until children of 18 years old. This was a very high achieving theatre school and some of the older children I was preparing for theatre school auditions around the country.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I have trained at the University of Manchester (bmus honours), Birmingham Conservatoire ( bmus honours) and I am now studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (Mmus and Mperf).

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I have had much success with pupils sitting ABRSM exams and receiving distinctions and merits. I have also had success with singing pupils getting into prestigious choirs such as the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

Hi I'm Lucinda and I am a classically trained singer and musician currently studying for my Master's degree at the Guildhall School of Music. I am a well rounded musician and performing and teaching music are both strong passions of mine.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach all genres of singing, beginners piano, music theory and musicianship. I also teach academic music for any level as well as English and also maths just for KS1 students.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a Bachelor with honours (bmus) in music graded 2:1 from the University of Manchester where I graduated in 2013. I then studied at Birmingham Conservatoire where I graduated with a first class honours degree in vocal and operatic studies. I am now studying for my Masters in performance at the Guildhall School of Music. I have grade 8 distinction on voice and on the violin, grade 7 on the piano and grade 6 on the oboe (all abrsm board). I also received my Duke of Edinburgh award from Buckingham Palace in 2011.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £35 an hour, £30 for 45 minutes and £25 for half an hour, but this is dependant on what type of lesson you are having. I would suggest that children learning under the age of 10 would only need half an hours lesson or 45 minutes.

- Where do you teach?

I do teach at home in Islington and Highbury which is very close to Holloway Road tube station, Drayton Park on the overground line or the Victoria line Highbury and Islington. I am also situated very close to Highbury and Hackney. I am willing to travel to students homes if travel expenses can be negotiated.

- When are you available?

I teach on week day evenings and I can teach on the occasional weekend if it suits the needs of the student but I prefer to teach mainly weekday evenings. I am also able to teach in school holidays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all ages and abilities for singing lessons and beginners for piano lessons. I teach all different levels for academic work and all ages and levels for music theory and musicianship.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

If students are wanting to work towards grades exams I am very happy to guide them with exam boards that suit the individual (e.g abrsm, trinity) as the different exam boards have different requirements. I can also guide pupils if they are wanting to study music at university or music college.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I expect hard work from my pupils but at the same time I really want learning to be an enjoyable experience and with my guidance, experience and professional knowledge I can provide the best learning environment for any child or adult wanting to take up a new skill or carry on improving what they have already learnt. I also promote setting goals for my pupils every term so that it becomes a rewarding experience. Please do get in touch if you feel I can help you or your child.
