About Ken
I have over 20 years of experience performing live music. After studying Popular Music Performance in London, I spent several years performing across the UK before touring internationally on luxury cruise ships with Tui and Royal Caribbean.
Now living in Ireland, I currently perform at venues and events across the country, including Temple Bar in Dublin and the Quays Music Hall in Galway as well as teaching music during the day.

Hi there and thanks for checking out my page!
I offer friendly one-to-one guitar and bass lessons in Galway for anyone interested in learning and improving their instrumental skills in guitar, bass or music theory!
I hold a degree from the London College of Music - BMus (Hons) in Popular Music Performance, as well as Grade 8 in Electric Bass Guitar from the Registry of Guitar Tuition as well as playing bass and guitar professionally for over ten years and singing professionally for the last five years.
I enjoy helping students discover their style and gain confidence through music. Every lesson is tailored to your interests, whether you want to learn your favorite songs, write your own music, or develop solid technique in a fun and encouraging environment. Lessons offer a pressure-free environment at your own pace hopefully leading to a fun and long-lasting career in music and a great grounding in being creative!
Although I have formal musical training in bass guitar and theory, I am largely self-taught at guitar (and singing). Teaching yourself with books and videos and watching other musicians is an excellent way to progress and many of the greatest pop and rock musicians have had great careers this way.
However for some of us (and I include myself in this category) need some guidance to be able to focus on our goals. Whether it's a one-off lesson for a bit of a guide or long-term lessons, we can find what works for you and work towards that in our lessons! Here’s what we’ll work on in our lessons, below:
Beginners:
We’ll start by talking about your musical interests on guitar or bass. Whether you’re learning for fun or working towards a grade, we’ll find an enjoyable way to build the basics while playing music you like. If you're working towards a grade, we can work through your textbook together along with other helpful resources.
Intermediate:
For intermediate players, there are plenty of ways to develop your existing skills. This can include expanding your chord knowledge with alternative fingerings (which gives a great understanding of how our knowledge of music theory intertwines with the choices we make in a song), to harmonics, soloing and tips and tricks to be able to use these in a live situation.
Advanced:
For advanced bass guitar or music theory lessons, there are lots of options depending on what you’d like to focus on. This could include topping up your knowledge on scales, arpeggios, songs or techniques that you're working on, playing pieces for fun, preparing for an exam or anything else you can think of! For advanced guitar lessons or advanced techniques, I can refer you to another one of Galway's excellent guitar tutors who can help.
