I put each student at the centre of each lesson and the scheme of work as a whole. After an induction lesson to discuss what you know and what your goals are, I will create a programme for us to study which will enable each student to realise their musical potential.

I have a great enthusiasm for music and this is a quality I bring to each lesson. I have taught in London, throughout Devon and also in Sydney Australia. Currently, I work as a private guitar/bass tutor and performing musician based in Birmingham.
I cater for students’ individual needs and aspirations, whilst aiming to develop a broad range of musical skills including music reading, improvisation and interpretation, music theory, aural recognition, composition and graded study. I am a stylistically versatile tutor and teach across all contemporary musical styles. I also introduce younger students to basic classical technique in the preliminary stages of learning.
I have delivered the government initiative wider opportunities/first access in large primary school groups. Throughout ten weeks of lessons, students learnt note names on the guitar fingerboard, basic notation and guitar tablature, aural skills and how to perform in an ensemble. At the end of the lessons students had the fantastic experience of performing at St Mary’s University in Twickenham as part of the RMT’s Ten Pieces jazz performance.
In Brent I led a guitar ensemble, who performed at termly secondary school concerts. Their repertoire over the last two years has included classical arrangements of Christmas carols, popular songs and jazz standards. I have also organised a primary school ensemble in Richmond who performed arrangements of popular songs at termly school concerts. In each instance, I have written the arrangements or made
amendments to existing arrangements to differentiate the parts accordingly, which has enabled students of all abilities to participate.
I have also had the pleasure of preparing a sixth form funk band for the Brent Battle of the Bands competition. This included working with the students on their arrangement skills, developing their rhythmic security and performance skills. The students did very well and were placed second in the borough wide competition.
In addition, I also have three years of classroom teaching experience as a music lecturer on a BTEC National Diploma (level 3) in Music Performance and a foundation degree program in Music Performance and Events Management. Whilst at South Devon College I taught a range of modules including Aural Skills, Session Styles, Working and Developing as a Musical Ensemble, FDA Performance and Contextual Studies.
I was also responsible for subject tutorials, marking, lesson planning, writing assignments from set syllabuses and the organisation of student performances. Furthermore, I also led extra-curricular music theory classes and a weekly 'drop in' session which was successful in providing further support to students.
As a recording a performing musician I have recorded with The Kris Barras Band (UK), VPS Projects (S.A), DJ Fortee (S.A) Dolls Coombes (Italy) and Meith (Portugal). I have also had the privilege of performing at The Ritz Jazz Club, The Jazz Cafe, Ronnie Scotts, The Hippodrome, The 02 Forum Kentish Town, La Cigar (Paris), 013 (Netherlands) and Carlswerk Victoria (Germany).
My overall teaching goal is to provide a fun and relaxed atmosphere in which students feel confident and inspired to learn. Eventually, it is my hope that each student can gain a level of student autonomy through a constructivist relationship between practical and theoretical application. It is my aspiration to utilise my skills and experience to further the development of musicians of all ages and abilities.
I took up learning the guitar rather late in life! Elliott is brilliant as a tutor and mixes challenges and the sense of achievement, along with interest in what I like to play, to keep my interest going and, I hope, make progress, towards my ambition of being able to play reasonably one day. He’s very patient and his enthusiasm gives you confidence in your own progress. He’s also an amazing guitarist, but makes you think that doesn’t mean you need to be exceptional to play yourself ! If he can do it for me, I’m sure he can do it for you too! Andy bc in Devon

Elliott is a sublime bass player, actually a fantastic musician across the board... I've been watching and listening to him for years, he's just solid, musical and with a natural amazing stage presence!
Elliott started teaching me in October 2019. Not knowing a note, I had bought a Fender Stratocaster and (promising him my commitment) asked him to teach me 'Hey Joe'. Since then we've had weekly and bi-weekly lessons, both practical and theory, enjoying the blues in the main.
He's a superb guitarist and very professional teacher, plus a real nice guy. I'd recommend Elliott to anybody at any level. Have fun!
I have worked with Elliot as a tutor and player. Not only is he an excellent bassist, but he is also a true professional.
