About Maya
Hi! I'm Maya, a London based professional guitarist. I've been playing for 20 years with extensive experience playing live and in bands, and a Grade 8 (Trinity Guildhall) in Classical guitar. I lead my own band Pigeon Dog, and we do regular shows around London and release our own music independently.
I previously worked in a guitar shop on Denmark Street, and have an in-depth knowledge of guitar maintenance and history. I play a wide range of styles, predominantly playing grunge/punk in my current project, but in my spare time I enjoy playing anything from country, soul, classic rock/blues to adaptations of popular songs.
To be completely honest, I decided to start teaching regularly because so many female/non-binary beginners I met on Denmark Street told me about the lack of non-male guitar teachers available online. I think it's incredibly important that young musicians feel as comfortable as they possibly can, especially when learning a daunting new skill in what is a predominantly male-dominated space.

About the lesson

Lessons can be between 45mins-1 hour, and are for Beginner/Intermediate Electric Guitar, Bass, or Acoustic players - my lessons can either follow a Trinity Guildhall Grade syllabus of your choosing (Acoustic/Classical etc.), or alternatively we will focus on training the ear, you pick the song you want to learn and we'll go from there! I strongly believe in the importance of learning songs you love through listening and understanding the fretboard of your guitar. From there, we can go through various techniques and figure out what suits you best as you advance your playing. There is no right or wrong with the guitar!
