About Felix Leopold

I am a Grade 12 guitarist with 6 years of playing experience, including 4 years performing as part of a jazz band. During this time, I have taken part in numerous jazz concerts and have had opportunities to perform solos, which has helped me develop strong confidence, timing, and stage experience as a musician.

Alongside performing, I have also helped several friends learn guitar and improve their playing. This has given me experience in explaining concepts in a simple, patient, and practical way, especially for beginners who are just starting out or trying to build consistency.

I focus on creating a supportive and structured learning environment where students can grow step by step, whether they are learning their first chords or developing more advanced techniques. My goal is to help each student feel confident in their playing while building real musical understanding that they can apply beyond lessons.

My approach as a guitar tutor is focused on building both solid technical skills and real musical understanding so students can eventually play independently and confidently. I don’t just teach chords or songs in isolation; instead, I break everything down into practical steps that connect technique, timing, and musical expression. I use a mix of guided repetition to develop accuracy and muscle memory, ear training to help students recognize notes and chord progressions, and learning through real songs so that every concept is immediately applied in a musical context. Because I’ve been a guitarist in a jazz band for several years, I also bring in elements like rhythm control, improvisation basics, and playing with others when it fits the student’s level.

A typical lesson starts with a short warm-up to get the fingers and timing working properly, such as simple exercises, scales, or chord transitions. We then review previous material to make sure nothing is forgotten and to build consistency. After that, I introduce a new concept or song section and break it into smaller, manageable parts so it is easy to understand and practice. Toward the end, we apply what was learned by playing along with backing tracks or combining multiple techniques in a more realistic musical setting. I usually finish by giving clear, focused practice tasks so students know exactly what to work on before the next lesson.

What sets me apart is my real performance experience as part of a jazz band, which gives me practical knowledge of how music works in group settings, not just in theory. I also relate well to students because I am a Grade 12 student myself, which helps me explain concepts in a way that feels clear, modern, and easy to understand. This makes the learning environment more comfortable and less intimidating, especially for beginners.

These lessons are best suited for beginner to intermediate guitar players, especially middle school and high school students who want to build strong fundamentals. They are also good for anyone looking to improve their playing for school music programs, band participation, or personal interest in guitar.
