About Joe
I'm Joe — a qualified surf instructor with years of hands-on experience teaching surfers of all levels on the Atlantic coast, from complete beginners to people refining advanced technique. Alongside surfing, I hold a First Class degree in Conservation Biology and currently work as a marine scientist and rainforest educator, so I bring a genuinely deep understanding of the ocean, waves and natural environment to every session — not just technique, but the why behind it.
I'm also dyslexic, which has given me a real appreciation for breaking things down clearly and adapting how I explain things so they actually land, rather than relying on one-size-fits-all coaching.
I believe the best progress comes from understanding your own surfing, not just being told what to fix. My coaching style is honest, encouraging and genuinely detailed — I'll show you exactly what's happening in your technique and give you a clear path to improve.
Right now I'm based remotely while working and travelling, so all coaching is delivered online and flexible around your schedule and time zone.

This is online surf coaching done properly — not a gimmick. Send me a video of yourself surfing and I'll give you detailed, honest feedback on your technique: pop-up, positioning, paddling, wave reading, timing. You'll get clear, actionable steps to improve, explained in a way that actually makes sense.
I also offer surf theory and preparation coaching — perfect if you're planning a surf trip and want to understand wave behaviour, ocean safety, surf etiquette, and what to expect before you even get in the water.
This isn't a replacement for in-person lessons when you're learning to stand for the first time — but if you're already surfing and want to genuinely improve, this is one of the most effective ways to fast-track your progress.
Lessons are fully online and flexible around your schedule — I'm currently based remotely while working abroad.
