My tutoring style is friendly, focussed and effective, and I believe in equipping students with the tools to find solutions independently rather than providing a quick fix. For instance, in subjects such as Economics it is important to approach problems logically and with a structure, rather than by memorising a textbook. More importantly, I believe the most effective way of learning is by finding enjoyment in the subject and I strive to foster an appetite for learning. Also I find that, all too often, students lack the confidence to ask questions. I understand this, hence I believe a disciplined but friendly learning environment is the best approach. As an extremely quantitative person, I set quantifiable goals for my students and create specific homework plans (e.g. complete 10 linear algebra questions at 5:30pm-6:30pm on Monday). This greatly increases commitment levels, and therefore, results.
I believe it is incredibly important to be able to solve problems through creative thinking, commitment, resilience, logic and determination rather than simply memorising answers. This is what I am looking for in a student - someone who is willing to work hard independently to improve their academics rather than relying on a tutor to solve problems. I am more than happy to explain my experience and teaching style in further detail upon request.
I have been tutoring since 15 years old and more recently taught Economics for an Oxford-based summer school. My formal experience began in 2015 when I volunteered for an educational charity for over 15 months, tutoring a range of ages and abilities in subjects such as mathematics and business studies. My students were chiefly from poorer areas of Newcastle and it was an incredibly rewarding experience to help them with homework and exam preparation. The organisation, Success 4 All, offered mainly free tutoring however I was 'promoted' to their paid 1-on-1 service. I have been a tutor at the University of St Andrews Economics Society where I assisted 1st and 2nd Year students with tutorial questions, exam preparation and general questions in the subject of Economics. I have a strong track record at university level and I was privileged to be able to offer advice and study tips to peers. I also have teaching experience, including at an Oxford-based summer school. I taught ten international students a course that I had devised on concepts such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, game theory, international flows and finance. I also gave an evening talk on the 2008 Financial Crisis. In May/June 2017, I taught English, Maths and Global Citizenship to students aged 11-15 in the war affected regions of Ukraine. I consider all of my experience to be incredibly important and to have contributed to my tutoring style today. Hopefully you can see that I am motivated by being able to help people.

Elliot is a fantastic tutor! He is patient and very dedicated to making sure students learn the source material to a high level. He is always punctual. He also maintains a high level of professionalism in his communication. Elliot has an advanced understanding of economics and maths but is also great at explaining concepts from those subjects to anyone no matter their skill level.
