I am a Professional, Highly-Qualified and Experienced Tutor. Please feel free to contact me for more information. - Which subject(s) do you teach? Violin (beginner, intermediate and advanced) Piano (beginner up to Grade 3) Music Theory / Aural Training - Tell me about your qualifications. I hold a Master of Arts and a BMus Degree in Performance from the Royal Academy of Music, where I have studied with Professors Hu Kun and Igor Petrushevski. At that institution I was awarded a Santander Universities Award. In 2007, I was invited to study with one of the most outstanding performing violinists, Benjamin Schmid - at the University of Arts in Bern, Switzerland, during two years - and I was also fortunate to be part of the elite group of students at the International Menuhin Music Academy, in Blonay, Switzerland, where I worked and learnt from great musicians. In 2003 I moved to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music (with a full merit scholarship), and graduated in 2007 with Honours. During this period I was awarded a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, who generously supported my studies. I was born in Portugal into a musical family and I started to play the violin at the age of 6. I was a laureate and winner in national and international competitions such as the Portuguese Young Musicians Award (Premio Jovens Musicos) , Juventude Musical Portuguesa (1st Prize), the Julio Cardona International String Competition (1st prize) and represented Portugal at the "Piccoli Mozart" musical event in Montecarlo, which was broadcast internationally on TV. During my musical journey I have been performing solo and chamber music concerts in Portugal, UK, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Monaco, Germany, USA, and more recently in Israel. I have also played as member for various orchestras under renowned conductors, such as Sir Colin Davies, Vladimir Jurowski, Semyon Bychkov, Edward Gardner and many others. In Portugal, I was a regular player with Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música, one of the country's top orchestras, having toured not only Portugal, but also Spain and Brazil. I play on a Paul Kaul violin from 1928, named "Iphigénie". - How much do you charge? £50 for a full length lesson of 60 minutes. - Where do you teach? Currently I teach in West Hampstead, Hampstead, Finchley, Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Swiss Cottage, Finchley Road, North London. - When are you available? On Saturdays and Sundays. - Which ages and levels do you teach? I teach and give advice to students of all ages, from very beginners to mature professionals. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? ABRSM Exams Competitions School Entrance Exams Concerts Auditions General musicianship Career advice - Do you have a personal message for students? I believe that music is for everyone, whether working towards a career in music or not. I am a friendly, dedicated and persistent teacher, and I am also very serious about my teaching, so I always expect the best results from my students. I tailor my lessons to each one of them, taking into account their personality, abilities and own goals. And ultimately, I want my students to feel motivated and benefit from the lessons as much as possible.
