About Julie
I have decades of experience in the classroom and as a one-on-one tutor. My enthusiasm for teaching has not waned and I find my students' success a source of great satisfaction. I have worked with young children, high school and college bound. I enjoy working with students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia and ADHD, helping them find tools and approaches to succeed. My experience ranges from basic literacy, homework assignments, writing of essays and research papers to passing standardized exams (Hi-Set, GED, NYS Regents exams) and improving performance on SAT & ACT tests.

I've worked with students with a wide range of backgrounds, gifts and challenges and recognize that every student approaches learning differently. In teaching English (reading, writing, comprehension), I typically look for materials that will interest and engage students' interest whether in the classroom or in individual tutoring. In preparation for standardized exams, I work with students to find clues and approaches to deconstruct a challenging text with such skills as identifying author's thesis and supporting examples, deciphering unfamiliar vocabulary in context, etc. I have taught students throughout K-12 level, primarily in English & Social Studies/History but also math and science. My experience ranges from teaching basic literacy to college prep with the bulk of my experience on secondary school level
