About Christopher
I am a full time Cheltenham guitar teacher offering private Electric and Acoustic Guitar Lessons out of my home (5 mins from Cheltenham town Center). I also offer peripatetic teaching in primary and secondary schools.
I have been playing the guitar for over 17 years. As an active musician, I regularly perform for 4 different bands, playing a range of styles from rock to folk music and doing both original material and covers of the classics. I also play solo guitar to set the mood in art galleries, functions and weddings ceremonies, and then play electric guitar in the wedding band as the guests and couple celebrate. I have a great deal of experience playing in different studios and for various musicals. This diversity is what makes me not only an accomplished guitarist, but also a good teacher.
I have my BA hons in Music specialising in Studio Composition which I put to good use for years as the Musical Director for a local Cheltenham Ballet School. This also offered me a great deal of experience in the way of professional studio and live performance. The shows had to be exact and lively as the rock band is on stage with the dancers! I learnt guitar throughout my school years and sixth from getting 100% in my graded performances in finger style jazz.
My composition background and small home studio offer a great chance to record your progress and performances. Students can learn about music technology, recording for the guitar and realising their compositions.
All my experience has given me a very practical and real world view of music theory and its application. Theory and understanding of scales and chords is not only essential to all working guitarists, but also to people who just want to play a few tunes or join a band. It separates real guitarists from people who just pick up a guitar and play, giving great opportunities but also making the art form of playing guitar much more exciting. I understand how music is put together and can explain it in real, practical, useable ways.
All of the opportunities I have had in my career have come from a solid musical instrument education teaching me the fundamentals of music. Whether your goal is playing a pub, festivals, in the studio, playing for an orchestra, playing backing guitar for other guitarists or just playing in time with your favorite tracks, I have the perfect experience to help guitarists, whatever their goals.
