About Dan
I am an approachable, enthusiastic and empathetic experienced teacher who is sensitive to, and able to focus on the particular language needs of the individual. I have taught and successfully tutored students from Year 7 (aged 11) right through to university and Oxbridge entry level over 20 years. As an experienced teacher, I see value in helping students understand how German works as a language (so that they are able to manipulate and use the grammar language in their own way rather than just speak or write from learning by heart!). For A level, I have expertise in a number of the A level paper 2 topic areas and have examined the speaking for AQA.

I am an experienced previous Head of German who is skilled in adapting to individual needs. With a PhD and an MA (Distinction) in German from UCL, as well as a first class honours in German and French from Sheffield University, I have expert knowledge of the language, literature and culture and am sensitive to the challenges a non-native speaker may encounter in learning a language. I am experienced and familiar with all areas of GCSE and A level specifications, from translation, vocab building, writing, reading and listening skills, through to developing skills speaking and interacting in conversation and advanced discussions. I have previously taught at the Grammar School at Leeds and Caistor Grammar School (Lincolnshire) with pupils achieving outstanding results at both GCSE and A level. I have relocated to Cambridge and can teach in person or online (I tend to think that teaching in person is more effective). I have transport and am available within a 15 mile radius of Cambridge. I can offer lessons of between 1 hour and 2 hour sessions.
