About Rhys
I strongly believe that history exams, essays, and assignments aren’t simply about memorising the content – a recipe for quickly getting disillusioned or disheartened with workload! I feel that the subject must be taught using a holistic approach, not just with a focus on reading and writing but also looking at podcasts, videos, and images to give students a fuller, more engaging understanding of historical contexts and people.
In that way, I can ensure that my students are not merely able to regurgitate their course information but also that they have a deeper, more nuanced understanding, enabling them to actively relate historical ideas to each other. This ability is absolutely essential to producing robust, top level responses in assessments throughout GCSE, A-Level and University.

I have a BA History degree from the University of Leeds and formerly worked as a paralegal so I have a strong knowledge of what is required to succeed studying history at a high level whilst building skills for the workplace. I use personal feedback, past papers and in-depth essay-writing practice, among other methods, to actively improve students' academic skills and enrich their learning. I supplement this with interesting podcast clips or videos too for extra revision resources. These source-based audio, image and video resources can also provide the basis for a lesson depending on the student's needs. The typical length of a lesson is 1 hour. I teach any age of secondary school or A-Level student.
