About Iris
When I was in secondary school, I adored my history lessons. I took great interest in them above all others, and always tried my hardest to achieve in my homework. Therefore, you can imagine my surprise when my first piece of work came back with a rather poor grade. And the piece after that. I felt as though I was misunderstanding some crucial part of the history syllabus; that everyone else had been given a hint that I’d been left out on. It was not until six months before my GCSE exams that it all clicked into place. I finally understood how to write the essay and achieve the top marks. I finished my GCSEs with an A*, and went on to get an A in my history A Level. History holds a special place in my heart, and by analysing it through a more accessible approach I would hope to build confidence in achieving top examination marks.

Through a more informal approach, I will make history come alive through comprehensible and enthusiastic discussion. Giving students the time and correct environment to ask questions, feel out their own techniques and discover their own personal style is particularly important to my tutoring. As well as tips for essay format and layouts, I will help to develop exam technique to reach top grades. I can provide lessons for up to 2 hours at a time. I have just finished my undergraduate degree in History and Politics (Hons) at the University of Edinburgh, including a year abroad at George Washington University in D.C., where I held a place on the Dean’s list for my academic achievements. I have a place for a masters degree at Cambridge University for the autumn term.
