About Anya

Hi! My name is Anya and I am a professional photographer and educator based in London, UK.
For more than 5 years I have been teaching digital and analogue photography at University of The Arts London

Central Saint Martins Graduate and Jane Rapley Scholar I have a distinction in MA Contemporary Photography Practices and Philosophies in addition to BA in Commercial Photography at University of The Arts London and a graduate diploma in Photography in the New Media from British Higher School of Education.

Tailored Art Education: Whether you're preparing for art school applications or looking to refine your photography techniques, I offer bespoke tutoring tailored to your unique needs and goals.  

Comprehensive Support: From portfolio preparation and interview coaching for prestigious art schools to technical skill development in photography, I provide thorough guidance across all facets of your artistic development. This includes hands-on help with personal statements, contextualising your work, and regular constructive feedback on your evolving practice.  

International Expertise: As an artist who exhibits globally and a lecturer at leading London art colleges, I leverage my international experience to enrich your learning, exposing you to diverse artistic perspectives and practices.

I did a workshop on advanced colour darkroom hand printing with Anya. I studied photography in college but never got to spend enough time in the darkrooms. I learned how to use the “pre-flash” and how to print multiple images on one sheet of paper and much more. Anya is extremely knowledgable and patient and I came out of the workshop feeling inspired and had a great time. On top of that the location is great and very central which I find rare because this type of workshops are usually very far and hard to get to. Absolute gem. Excited come back for more workshops in the future!

1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?
I started teaching while I was still at university! I find teaching very rewarding, I get to help
my students on their creative journeys and that's very special, to me
2) Which artists or works affect you the most?
Tricky and very personal question! If we're speaking photography I love Juergen Teller, Cindy Sherman and Helmut Newton (yes, I know, it's a mix!) also a huge fan of Lotus Kang who just recently had a Chisenhale Gallery commission. I love a Richard Prince painting and Walter Price, and some works by Robert Rauschenberg, Mike Kelly.. It always changes, you know. Oh, almost forgot, I love Urs Fisher!
3) What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?
I believe to be an artist is to be open to things, it's important to try things out. And consistency of course!
4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?
Allocate time and space for your creative practices. Avoid getting distracted!
5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?
I think the feeling is a tricky thing to pinpoint, I would probably compare it to somewhat euphoric
6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?
I graduated from Saint Martins as a talent of the year of all Master courses - so that was quite big for me. LVMH award nomination as well!
7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?
Absolutely! My students are somehow the most talented people I know, always proud of them and keep in touch after we finish our lessons!
8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?
My secret is my ability to adjust to any level of students and their needs. Being supportive and encouraging along the way!
