About Oliver
I’m Oliver Marx, a PhD student with a passion for climbing. I’ve represented South Africa in both lead and boulder disciplines at IFSC events. My motivation for teaching is that I love to see improvement in climbers. There’s something about that immediate feedback, when you do a boulder you’ve previously not been able to do, proving that you’re better than you were, that makes me believe that climbing is the best sport in the world. If I can help you achieve that feeling, then job done, I’ll sleep well at night.

Having climbed for nearly 18 years, competed in over 15 international competitions, and coached and been coached all throughout; I have come to understand the key ingredients to improving as a climber. Anyone can make you stronger, I’ll help you get better. My shoes will be on too during our sessions as I show you intricate body positions and technical skills, and provide you with constant feedback on your climbing when you try. Of course, there will be guidance for strength training too, to round off your road to the next climbing goal.
We can climb together, which will involve a charge of the entrance fee to the gym if I do not have a membership, or if you prefer I will spectate only and give guidance from the mats.

Perfect! I took a climbing class with Oliver and really enjoyed it. He has great knowledge of technique and quickly pointed out what I could improve. His tips were clear and helpful, definitely recommend him if you want to level up your climbing.

Olly, Oliver has been amazing to me over the past few years. Although he’s moved to England UK to complete his studies, he’s helped me extraordinarily with my studies. He’s insanely great at his Math and Science and can spot things i never even knew were possible, i addition to his remarkably smart mind, he’s been such a great mentor and friend, very open and understanding to conversation.
