About Deborah
I am a deeply passionate Philosophy student with interests in ancient, medieval, and modern philosophy. I hope to inspire my students to become 'philosophical' and not to simply be able to-do philosophy. I begin every lesson with a (I hope relevant and inspiring) quote based on our current reading.
"Solvere non est ignorantis vinculum." (Aristotle, Metaphysics B 1)
"To untie a knot is not a job for the nitwit."
I look forward to coming together to untie philosophical knots.

My techniques of teaching consist in the following:
(1) Philosophical Techniques:
(a) asking my student to provide summaries of arguments based on my own methodology and creating an adapted form for my student's preferred style.
(b) I will provide a summary of the definitions of the key terms in texts or relevant sections of the syllabus to create a solid foundation to the understanding of the relevant material. I also expect my student to emulate my focus on key terms (and this may be used as a form of pre-lesson homework).
(2) Technological Techniques:
(a) guiding the student on how to make use of annotation software to more visually get more 'stuck into' texts.
(b) guiding the student through use of diagrams as to how arguments are structured.
The length of my lessons will depend on the material at hand and will only be as long as is required for the relevant section. It is essential that the way in which philosophical enquiry is taught emulates the clarity and structure aimed for by the teaching.
I am happy to cater my lessons to all age ranges, and abilities up to undergraduate degree level.
