About Lorraine
I am a first class Chemistry Graduate, and have recently graduated from Imperial College London with a Masters in Chemistry & Engineering. My professional background is in the automotive/chemicals industry, and at present I am a Gasoline Development Chemist at a top tier chemicals company. But what was the precursor to my pursuit of Chemistry you ask? – as a child, a love of mathematics. I believe that a firm foundation in mathematics at Primary level is a necessary stepping-stone to later success in STEM subjects. Quite simply, the confident child mathematicians of today are the Scientists and Engineers of tomorrow! Combining my artistic talents, and my love of ‘all things science’, I have gradually been taking steps towards creating my own resources for young children in the KS1/KS2 age-range (5-11 years) aimed at securing their early interest in STEM subjects. Through my tuition sessions, I aim to create a supportive and relaxed environment, where my students can freely ask questions essentially instilling within them the confidence to “just give it a go” – encouraging their development of a healthy curiosity for numbers. I am very much interested in learning what makes students tick, and in studying their learning style I can tailor my approach accordingly. Lorraine was my daughters' tutor for 2 years during her KS1 and KS2 years at the school. Lorraine's style of teaching is creative, very innovative and unique. My daughter was able to quickly grasp mathematics and scientific concepts she was unsure of at that level. My daughter is a visual learner and Lorraine was able to cater to all her learning needs using colours, pictures and her own resources, which I thought was fantastic. She creates her own mini exams and homework to ensure my daughter fully understands what she has learnt.
