- I have tutored undergraduate students in java
- I also have an experience in mentoring as well, and currently a part of Tech needs girls a non profit making organisation that mentors and teaches girls how to code
- Last year as well I had the opportunity to tutor and facilitate a class in Basic ICT skills to teaches in Ghana
I am Nura Abdul-Rahman, a graduate of Ashesi University College with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems, Ghana and currently pursing an MSc in Information Technology at University of Glasgow. I also have 2 years work experience in the technology industry (DreamOval), worked a junior software engineer for a year and half and a product development engineer. I have always been interested in education and computer programming.
In my final year at Ashesi, I worked as java programming tutor. As a programming tutor for Java at Ashesi University, my responsibilities included reinforcing student’s understanding of concepts learned in class, clarifying assignments and grading students’ work.
At Dreamoval, I mentored and tutored a second year student on how to code in Java. Due to my previous experiences with tutoring, this role was less challenging and my problem solving skills heightened as I gain better understanding of the basic concepts of Java.
Last year in Ghana, I also participated in iTeach, a DreamOval Foundation initiative supported by Ghana Education Service to provide teachers with free basic ICT training. With the goal to assist teachers to understand and appreciate the role of ICT specifically Internet in education, I taught teachers in rural Accra computer basics and social media networking. This included discussing some job opportunities in ICT and how to improve their computer skills.
