As part of my teaching assistant job, I am responsible for identifying the individual levels and targets for each student, then devising methods to reach those goals. This involves getting to know their learning styles - some students prefer visual and oral aids to learning, others are comfortable with words. Because of my creative writing experience, I enjoy exploring a range of literature genres, including plays, poetry, and vernacular fiction and non fiction to show students how the English language adapts across genre, accent and region.
I've worked for thirty years as a publishing editor, up to Director level, for some of the UK's most famous publishers. Since I went freelance seven years ago I have gained an Edexcel Supporting Teaching and Learning Level 2 qualification, and I work full time at a local Primary School as a teacher assistant. I also act as literacy agent and publishing editor on a freelance basis for pubIishers and agents. I have eight GCSE O Levels and 3 GCSE A levels, all A and B grades. I have experience writing copy for marketing materials and book blurbs as well as for professional reports, which gives me a fluid and excellent ability to use English in different contexts. My grammar, punctuation and vocabulary range is at excellent professional level, and I act as a volunteer tour guide as well as delivering presentations for my school, which makes me an a confident oral communicator. My natural enthusiasm for the subject means that I can engage students, as well as finding angles which make the learning individually targeted and enjoyable.
