My tutoring is customized for each student. I work with artists from diverse interests and backgrounds. I have supported students in commercial practices, art practices, and hybrid career paths. I can assist you with editing and sequencing portfolios and projects or refining your artist statement. I have helped hundreds of photographers break into the industry or navigate transitional stages in their careers.
We begin with your work and analyze your strengths as a starting point for future development. The process of advancing your work and your career is a collaborative effort. Quite often, students already know intuitively what needs to happen to move forward. I support them in developing clarity, focus, and motivation. I want my students to thrive. I will refer you to resources for career development and share links to new sources of inspiration. Whether you are looking to level up your technique or refine your personal vision, I can support you.
I work with advanced beginners, intermediate students, undergrads, MFA candidates, practicing artists and professionals.

Paul is a very special teacher. The first class I took with him was called Constructed, Staged, Performed. With regard to his criticism, he constructs and in turn his students build, among other things, confidence. Paul is beloved by his students with many of us taking his classes over and over again. He is generous with his time and knowledge of art history, commercial photography. and the modern art scene. I cannot say enough good things about him but don't take my word for it. Experience the magic of his classes yourself!
Paul was an incredibly inspiring lecturer.
He introduced us to some of the best photography exhibitions, home studios, zine fairs, and seemed to know everyone in the scene. He encouraged us to pursue our interests further and helped make the wider photography world feel more accessible and exciting.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Paul Sunday for many years across incredible projects and with some of the most iconic clients. Paul brings an extraordinary eye, deep artistry, and a calm, collaborative spirit to every shoot. His work is consistently powerful — capturing moments that are both timeless and emotionally resonant.
What truly sets Paul apart is not just his talent, but his gift for teaching. He inspires those around him, guiding with insight, patience, and a true passion for the craft. His upcoming online classes will be an incredible opportunity for anyone looking to elevate their photographic vision and learn from one of the best in the field.
I can’t recommend him highly enough.
I was a student of Paul's at Pratt, and I can't recommend him highly enough. He has incredibly deep knowledge of photography, art, and the creative industries. His lessons, both practical and historical, not only set a baseline our class, but inspired each of us to explore independently outside of class hours. Paul's teachings, openness, and encouragement are invaluable, and I look forward to studying with him again through superprof!
I had the privilege of being Paul's student three years ago, and the impact of his teaching has stayed with me ever since. The class was such a success that my fellow students and I specifically sought him out for additional courses!
Paul’s assignments are thoughtfully designed, varied, and open-ended, giving students the freedom to explore ideas deeply and discover their own voice.
Group critiques in Paul’s classes were always respectful and constructive. He created a space where artists felt seen and supported, offering insights that were tailored and thoughtful. Most importantly, Paul offered something invaluable to young artists: validation and permission. His encouragement fostered confidence and a sense of legitimacy in my work that I carried forward beyond the classroom.
Paul is not only an excellent teacher but also a generous mentor who fosters a community of creativity and growth!View more recommendations
