Buongiorno e buonasera a tutti! My name's Maria and I am a patient, warm and supportive Italian teacher from Cagliari, Sardinia. Italian is my native language, but I've been studying English since I was 4 years old. Since I've attended a liceo classico in Italy from the age of 14 to 18 I also know Latin and Ancient Greek, making it possible for me to help my students learn Italian vocabulary pointing out the deep similarities between Italian and their language. I also have limited knowledge of French, after having studied it for 3 years in secondary school.
First, I assess the student's level, then I tailor the course to the student's needs and their interests.
My lessons are structured as follows:
Revision of homework and previous class;
Focus on new topic;
Practice with exercises and conversation;
My lessons include the study of grammar, vocabulary and word formation together with building the student's speaking, writing, reading and listening skills. If the student is interested I also offer Italian literature and culture lessons.
I am open to teach anybody, especially absolute beginners of any age! In this case, the lessons will be held in English until the student will have enough control over the Italian language. After this first phase has been successfully completed, I will only use Italian to guarantee as fast results as possible!
I have been a personal tutor to a primary school child, helping them develop their knowledge of the language, always highlighting the language’s useful and everyday life applications and targeting their individual needs during the sessions to guarantee them the best learning experience possible.
Made use of a textbook as guidance but complemented the book’s material with songs, short films and games, grammar and vocabulary exercises, children’s novels such as Collodi's Pinocchio and Calvino's Il barone rampante and special activities like Maths and Music in Italian.
I have guided the child in achieving a new appreciation and understanding of the Italian language and its culture and literature; this resulted in a noticeable improvement in both their listening skills, proved by the child becoming able to follow video and audio files without subtitles, and in their faith in their abilities, which is crucial in advancing their Italian writing, spelling, and reading.
Tenacity and patience were both skills strengthened during the role, having had to constantly tailor the activities to keep the child’s attention high during every two-hour session.
The encouraging teaching attitude adopted with the child was crucial in building their confidence.
Currently studying at Coventry University but based in Birmingham, I have an Italian diploma from a liceo classico. My educational background is humanistic-literary. I have studied Literatures and Languges, Art History, Philosophy and History. I also have a CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) with overall 199. I am specialised as a personal tutor, giving customised one-to-one lessons.
