« Izo had previously worked for us back in 2015 with two of our employees regarding a conference they were due to speak at, and was immensely helpful at working on the speech, communication skills and preparation techniques. This year we needed Izo again to work with 7 of our employees and one client over Skype. She was very easy to work with, gave us detailed plans of what would be covered in the 4 hour workshop and the group were highly satisfied with their training afterwards." March 2016 »

My husband and I spent a long time trying to find the right teacher for our son Benjamin. Benjamin finds it hard to articulate his words clearly and Izo came highly recommended to us. She continues to work with Benjamin every week on his R and S sounds and we're extremely pleased to see how much clearer his speech is and how his confidence is growing because of this"

When I first went on tutor pages I was looking for a teacher who would make me feel really relaxed and comfortable. I was immediately drawn to Izo's pink hair and glad to see she was well qualified. I booked in six lessons with her and we developed my communication skill. Izo is very structured within each session and gives specific feedback and homework to do in between sessions so that you can keep improving. I look forward to going back to see her to work on a presentation"

I arranged to see Izo through a friend of mine who recommended her to help with my pronunciation. I was very nervous about it but she made me feel completely relaxed, and every lesson was great fun. She made me feel much more confident and the work was extremely helpful. She is a very warm and friendly teacher who works you hard!"

We hired Izo to teach our 12yr old son Nilesh BBC English as he was finding it very difficult at school to be understood by his teachers. She was really fantastic with Nilesh and we were over the moon at how quickly he improved, and how confident he is now. Izo was very helpful at explaining the work to us so we could also encourage Nilesh with the exercises"

Last year Izo helped me work on a Nigerian accent for a play I was doing in South London. The lessons were absolutely brilliant. We had loads of fun using the accent as a way of getting into my character and at the same time learning so much about Nigerian history and culture. She also taught me how to break down an accent so I can now do it for myself. An absolutely brilliant teacher!"

I booked Izo to come and teach a group workshop on Presentation Skills and Public Speaking with Mint Digital in September last year. She was excellent at getting the group to share their experiences and to relax into the session. Afterwards the feedback was enormously positive and the use of vocal technique has helped a few members get over their nerves. We hope to get Izo back for another workshop this year.

Izo is currently teaching me to sing with more power and confidence. I'm really enjoying learning more about projection and breath control, and my overall performances have improved ten fold. It also helps that she herself is a performer so she understands about the pressures of the music business.

Izo thank you for helping me to conquer my nerves in time for the election. I feel much more confident and in control when I think about public speaking compared to the nervous wreck I was three months ago! Thanks again for everything and I will always remember to keep myself grounded when I speak!

I booked 6 sessions with Izo this year to help me work on my lisp. I've tried many voice teachers and methods before but Izo's patience and positive attitude in each session helped me develop my speech quite quickly. The exercises were effective and easy to grasp. Thank you. "

Interview with Izo

QUESTION 01 | 06
When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?
Izo — I first started playing the piano when I was 7yrs old. I was obsessed with learning my older sister's pieces which made me improve at a very quick rate due to being so competitive. I realised around 9yrs old that I loved to compose on the piano and create songs. Since a young age I have played the piano as often as I can. I find it hugely therapeutic, and a wonderful versatile instrument. I didn't learn to sing until much later. When I was at University I began to sing with a gospel choir, and eventually started singing my own material. I am forever learning about how to best use my voice as an instrument which lead me to training as a voice coach.
QUESTION 02 | 06
Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?
Izo — I could listen to Bill Withers all day and night. I find his voice enormously comforting, and the simplicity of his songs is incredible
QUESTION 03 | 06
Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a voice student?
Izo — I think that we're all born with wonderfully unique and free voices. We all have our own unique voice blue print which is unlike any other, so the exciting part about working with voice, is finding that free, expressive voice without all the habits that we build up to prevent it from working effectively. It's a huge adventure to empowered communication on every level.
QUESTION 04 | 06
What are your keys to success?
Izo — The keys to success, when working with voice in any way are determination, patience and intuition. Working with voice, accent or singing takes daily work to maintain good habits and easy use. It can take months to retrain the voice entirely, and build new neural pathways to more authentic communication. The determination to keep going, and the patience to keep going will reap huge rewards. Intuition is extremely important - the voice is very much connected to our identity and our emotions, so when I work with clients, I work on finding the best route in for that person. Using a wide range of tools and skills (technical, visual, psychological, practical) to get the best results. From my experience voice teachers tend to be a very intuitive, empathetic bunch who are able to detect what's needed.
QUESTION 05 | 06
Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.
Izo — Sadly a lot of my favourite musicians are no longer with us but in a dream scenario I would like to meet David Byrne, David Bowie and Prince. All three of these musicians have completely ignored what's expected of them musically and socially, and created music that has influenced me hugely. I think they would not only be unbelievably exciting to talk to but to hear them sing would be a dream come true.
QUESTION 06 | 06
What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in voice/singing?
Izo — I believe I'm a superprof in voice because I have come at voice from many different angles, and I feel I understand it deeply. Beginning as a singer and performer, I knew the technical requirements needed to sing well, but only when I studied as a voice coach for actors, did I fully apprehend the importance of breath, thought connection, resonance and clarity. This lead me to work with actors, singers and speakers of English as a second language. I understand the psychological impact that voice has on the performer, and the speaker, and how to use different tools and approaches to help my clients. I also feel that I tailor every session to the client's needs, and empower them.
