My teaching method is to focus on the personal needs and desires of the student, rather than following a set lesson plan every time. This allows for a more individual and successful experience and allows the student to focus on areas of particular importance. For example, if a student wants to focus on speaking rather than reading or writing, then I will make oral practice and comprehension to focus of the tutoring sessions.
I also like to incorporate my own experiences into each lesson, which I draw from my year of living, studying and working in Japan, as well as my years as a Japanese student in the UK alongside Japanese exchange students.
I am a firm believer in creating a fun and positive atmosphere in order to aid the learners' studying and to lower levels of anxiety (which is something I researched within my dissertation), meaning that I like to keep things friendly and casual, whilst also delivering professional and effective lessons.
In 2020 I graduated from York St John University (York, UK) with a Bachelor's degree in Japanese and TESOL (Teaching English to speakers of other languages). I have experience with studying Japanese both inside and outside of university classes, teaching languages (mostly English as a second language) and have lived and worked in Japan in the past. I am happy to teach anyone who falls in the beginner to intermediate bracket (JLPT N5-N3), even if this is your first time attempting to learn Japanese - everyone starts somewhere!
During my year in Japan I taught in a local primary school, which involved working the the English languages classes of up to 30 children who were aged between 4 and 10. I also taught English to Japanese students during my final year of university in The UK, and have been a Superprof tutor since September 2020.
