About Kevin
I studied Jazz guitar (Performance) at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for 4 years and achieved a BA (hons) in 2019. I gained extensive knowledge of harmony, improvisation, rhythmic systems, teaching methods, theory, compositional and arranging techniques. I've received mentorship and masterclasses from world-renowned instrumentalists and educators which has informed my own teaching style. I gig regularly around Scotland playing my own and other people's music. My industry experience gives students an insight into stagecraft, recording and can be beneficial in supporting students in developing their confidence when performing.

The lessons I give are tailored to the students' needs and goals. For the students who are learning as a hobby I centre the lessons around enabling them to play all their favourite songs while giving them the tools to eventually be able to break down and learn songs on their own and for my students who have academic or performance-related goals I split their lessons into three parts. I start by assessing the student's progress on the previous learning and homework set through questioning and performance, next I tailor the lesson to suit the needs of the learner in achieving their goals. I end the lesson by setting homework that will reinforce the learning that has taken place. For secondary school students I use popular graded music qualifications such as Rockschool, Trinity, ABRSM, and pieces from the SQA curriculum. This gives learners a clear goal to work towards meaning over time their musicality, technique, theory, and performance ability improve as they advance through each grade. For the students who have surpassed grade 8; we will dig deep into technique, harmony, improvisation, odd time signatures and all that good stuff!

Perfect! Really patient and kinda awesome - look forward to next lesson
Perfect! I started lessons with Kevin because I wanted to learn more about jazz guitar. He's been very helpful with this and I've learned a lot about what I should be practicing to get the most out of my intrument. He's happy to help me with any particular aspect of guitar I'm working on and I'm able to drive my own lessons based on what I'm interested in. With his lessons I've improved a lot and my practice has become more focused.

Kevin is a fantastic tutor as he has both a deep understanding of the guitar combined with a friendly and personable approach to teaching . He is able to explain concepts slowly and demonstrate their applicability and relevance. Kevin’s teaching style allows for a bespoke style of education based on the needs of every student.
Kev has been one of the most proficient and inspiring teachers I’ve had. Studying popular music BMUS on bass guitar, I wanted to further my harmony on guitar and it feels like Kev brings the best of his studies and education to every lesson.
