About Ben
I'm Ben (Benny Keys), a Bristol-based pianist, producer and educator with a background in maths and physics teaching. I left academia to work in music doing session and production work in neo-soul and hip-hop.
I play in bands and work as a music producer, so I approach playing both as a performer and as a songwriter. This means I have a strong sense of what sounds good and also how to implement it in practice.

My teaching focuses on the structure behind music: harmonic theory (how harmony actually works, not just chord shapes), songwriting and improvisational fluency (being able to hear an idea and play it, not just recite).
I'm probably the wrong teacher if you want to work through Grade exams or build a big repertoire of set pieces. I'm the right teacher if you're a musician who wants to write original music, improvise with confidence, and actually understand the harmony you're using, whether that's for songwriting, jamming or developing your own voice at the keys.
