Very flexible . Please enquire for further details.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I enjoy teaching all ages and abilities. Most of my students are of school age but a growing number of them are adults - some returners but many learning for the first time and proving that it is never too late to learn to play a musical instrument.
I teach the clarinet from beginner to diploma level, flute, recorder, saxophone and theory up to grade 8 and piano up to grade 5.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Associated Board , Trinity Guildhall and London College Examination boards as appropriate for the individual.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Woodwind instruments are a great choice for all ages. Progress is fairly rapid, the instruments are relatively inexpensive and portable and they are very versatile - once the basics have been taught, any number of musical styles are available to you. Their enduring popularity means that there are always local groups to play in whatever your age or ability, so give it a go!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have worked as a peripatetic woodwind teacher since leaving music college. First in Wiltshire then in the Peak District before settling in the Macclesfield area. I also teach at home.
I am the Macclesfield representative for London College of Music Examinations and I play principal clarinet in the KEMS orchestra in Macclesfield and am a member of a wind quintet and octet.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied the clarinet with Neville Duckworth initially then studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire for three years with Colin Parr.
I then completed a teacher training course, also in Birmingham.
