About Moraa
My relationship with Kiswahili is one that is slightly unusual, and I think would be helpful to a new learner. As someone whose first language is Kiswahili, I am well versed in the language. However, at the age of 3 I moved to the UK and stayed there until I was 8 years old. Because of this, I lost my ability to speak. However, through determination and hard work, I relearn my Kiswahili and have been fluent ever since. I firsthand understand the initial frustration when learning a new language. This makes me well equipped to teach because, through relearning the language, I absorbed the techniques to teach. Equally, Kiswahili in Kenya is spoken differently from other parts of East Africa. It is more informal and conversational than complex, so I would be able to teach you how we communicate with each other. Learning a new language is never easy, and I know this. I will make sure your journey is one that is comfortable and inclusive.
