KwanMusic in Cambridge and great shelford. Piano, music theory & Maths lessons for all ages.

Methodology

Hello, I'm a friendly, experienced piano and theory teacher that will guide all ages to reach their musical ambitions, from beginner to professional. I can take students through all levels of classical study.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Piano, Organ, Theory and Musicianship. I also offer GCSE, A-level and degree-level tuition.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

NPQML
PGCE - in secondary Music education
Bachelor of Music with Honours in Organ Performance from Trinity College of Music.

ARCO - Associate of the Royal College of Organists

ABRSM Grade 8 Theory(Distinction)
ABRSM Grade 8 Voice (Distinction)
ABRSM Grade 8 Organ (Distinction)
ABRSM Grade 8 Piano (Distinction)
ABRSM Grade 7 Viola (Merit)

- How much do you charge?

30 pounds an hour is my fee for tuition at my studio, although some students opt for £20 for 35-40 minutes. If students wish a theory lesson in addition discounts maybe available. Please be aware that 30 pounds is for one student only two students will typically require longer lessons and preparation. I always give time for my teaching and you will not feel rushed.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at home in N15 at my home address, in Seven Sisters, Tottenham. I have a concert grand piano which is available for students to practice on. Occasionally I will travel if it is feasible (if it is more than 30 minutes travel then there is a charge of 5 pounds).

- When are you available?

Typically I teach in the Evenings and at weekends. However please inquire for my current availability. I do tend to observe the school holidays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

All Ages and levels for Piano, Organ and Theory.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

Typically I prepare students for the following exams ABRSM, GCSE, A Levels, Trinity Guildhall Exams. However there is no obligation to take exams as students may not wish to work towards an exam. One student opted for a mock ABRSM exam with an ABRSM examiner in my studio.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I am able to tutor online via Skype, and I have a fast fibre-optic broadband connection for best quality during these sessions.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I love music and this is apparent in my music making and teaching. I have lived a life of music and this has included performance experiences from, Liverpool cathedral to the O2. I have been able to travel on tour to a number of countries from Africa to Denmark. As a teacher I search to develop my students to achieve similar experiences that I have feel lucky to have experienced.

Super tutor

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have taught piano for 18 years and the organ for the last 10 years. As a music teacher within secondary school, for the last 7 years, I am always looking for opportunities to inspire the students and get them involved in making music. As a result of this, I have learnt how to motivate students and inspire them to practice music with great results. I have a 100 percent pass rate for GCSE and ABRSM exams and I have a wide range of skills including, knowledge of audio equipment, PA systems and a firm grasp on subject knowledge to degree level including the history and theory of music. In addition I have a firm understanding of music technology in particular Cubase, Garageband, Audacity and Sibelius.

I hold Associateship from the Royal College of Organists (ARCO) and a performance degree with honours from Trinity College of Music. I am currently Director of Music and organist at St George's Church in Enfield, Freezywater and I enjoy conducting, performing, accompanying, rehearsing and sight-reading. I conducted the Festival Chorus singing the Handel's Messiah in Paris and last year organised three choirs to sing Faure's Requiem Mass. I am a very versatile musician and able to play the piano, harpsichord, voice, violin, viola, guitar and percussion. In recent years I have toured with the Hitchen Concert Band (Spain, Belgium) leading the percussion section. Musical engagements this year include accompanying the Enfield Choral Society at St Luke's Church and a solo piano performance including works by Chopin and Rachmaninoff.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have a fully up-to-date DBS disclosure certificate.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I trained as a chorister and organist at the Royal Hospital School where I was a music scholar. After leaving school I accepted a place at Trinity College of Music, London, where I studied the organ with Ian Curror, Cathrine Ennis and Colm Carey and I held an organ scholarship to Christ Church. After graduating from Trinity I gained my PGCE in music and subsequently my ARCO.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I belong to the following musical organisations; RCO, NUT, PNMS, MU.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Last term one of my students passed grade 3 piano with 140/150 (Distinction), my Organ student passed grade 8 with 134/150 (Distinction). Last year one student aged six passed his grade 2 with Merit and last summer a pupil aged 8 passed grade 3 piano and grade 1 Theory with Merit.

Tim's passion for music comes through in every lesson. Timothy has inspired my children and taught them both theory and piano. His professionalism and knowledge of music is impressive and he has developed excellent relationships with my children and inspires them to practice. My eldest son loves music due to his lessons and I would highly recommend this friendly teacher.
