About François-Camille

I offer specialist private tuition in Latin for GCSE and A-Level students, as well as undergraduate and university students. Lessons can focus on grammar, vocabulary, translation, literature or examination preparation, depending on each student’s level and objectives.

Having now been an independent tutor for 7 years, I combine my teaching experience with my background in Classical Studies to make Latin structured, accessible and intellectually rewarding.

★ MY METHOD ★

➤ Grammar & syntax — Build strong foundations in declensions, conjugations and sentence structure.

➤ Translation — Develop a rigorous and efficient method for approaching unseen Latin texts.

➤ Classical texts — Study authors in their literary, historical and philosophical context.

➤ Tailor-made exercises — Targeted practice adapted to each student’s level and objectives.

➤ Progress monitoring — Regularly consolidate previous material before moving on to more advanced texts.

Special requests are welcome, including GCSE and A-Level examination preparation, university Latin and students learning the language independently.

For further information, please feel free to contact me. I will get back to you as soon as possible.

About the lesson

✦ TEACHING IS NOT JUST A JOB — IT IS A PASSION. ✦

I offer private Latin tuition for students of all levels, from those discovering the language to GCSE, A-Level and university students wishing to strengthen their translation and understanding of classical texts.

Alongside my studies in Mathematics, I completed a DEUG in Classical Studies, with a particular focus on Latin, Ancient Greek, literature, history and philosophy.

◇ For me, learning Latin goes far beyond memorising declensions and conjugations. It means discovering the language through which some of the most influential works of European literature, history and philosophy were written.

▸ My aim is therefore to combine linguistic rigour with a broader understanding of Roman civilisation — helping students master the language while discovering the texts, ideas and history behind it.

I started lessons because I was really struggling with maths and had lost a lot of confidence. François-Camille was very patient and always found another way of explaining something when I didn’t understand it the first time. The lessons were well organised but never stressful, and I went into my GCSE feeling much more prepared. I ended up doing much better than I had expected!

I’m in uni studying math, and François-Camille has been supporting me with Linear Algebra and Real Analysis. His approach was rigorous but very clear. He pushes you to think properly and write proofs carefully, which was a big improvement for me. He was really patient, calm, and showed a genuine interest in my progress.
