About Michael
I have spent over 15 years working closely with students in further education and tutoring roles, supporting learners with a wide range of abilities and goals. My experience has taught me that no two students learn in the same way, so I adapt my teaching to suit each individual rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. In my sessions, I focus on helping students genuinely understand the subject, not just memorise information. I guide students through key ideas step by step, encourage discussion, and use practical examples to show how legal and business concepts work in real situations. I also use a variety of digital and online learning tools to make lessons more interactive and to support visual and independent learning outside of sessions. Lessons usually last around 60-90 mins, which allows time to cover content properly, practise exam or assignment skills, and deal with any questions. Where needed, sessions can be extended for revision, assessment preparation, or more in-depth support.

My approach to tutoring is learner-centred, supportive, and structured. I begin by identifying a student’s current level of understanding, learning style, and goals, and then tailor sessions to meet their individual needs. I break down complex law and business concepts into clear, manageable steps and use plain language to make topics more accessible. I use a range of teaching techniques, including guided discussion, real-life examples, exam-style questions, and practical exercises to reinforce learning. I also make regular use of technology-enhanced resources such as digital presentations, online materials, case studies, and interactive activities to keep lessons engaging and focused. A key part of my approach is helping students understand how to approach assignments and assessments, not just the subject content itself. I am an LLM-qualified tutor and an experienced FE lecturer with over 15 years of teaching and tutorial experience. I have extensive experience working with BTEC, City & Guilds, and NCFE qualifications, as well as supporting students at degree level. My subject specialisms include Contract Law, Criminal Law, and Employment Law, alongside academic skills such as legal writing, analysis, and exam technique. My lessons are suitable for post-16 learners, including: - BTEC, City & Guilds, and NCFE students - A-level and Access to HE learners -Undergraduate law and business students -Mature learners and career-change students
