About Yin Ji
I am 38. I am a lawyer and I qualified as a barrister at the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, London in 2005. I am a native Mandarin speaker. I can also speak a couple of Chinese dialects i.e. Cantonese and Hokkien. I'm originally from Malaysia but I received full time education in Chinese primary and high school when I was younger. Apart from verbal efficiency in the language, I also write Simplified Chinese Characters.
After having two children, I decided to quit my legal job to focus on them. The children are now both in school full time and I'm left with so much free time. I would like to spend my free time teaching Mandarin. I have given private lessons since 2017. I have done this both online and in person. Age of my students range from 10 to 23. Most of my students wanted to learn Mandarin as they were going to work in China. I have in the past given intensive lessons to some of my students where they went from zero to hero! To me, learning Chinese is not difficult and I would strive to have a fluent conversation with you in Mandarin by the end of the lessons.

I would first have a chat with you to see what you are looking to achieve.
If you are an adult learner, I would not want to start teaching you from scratch like how the language was taught in some schools. However, you will be taught all the basic PinYin (the official romanization system for Standard Chinese) to start with. I will then focus on having a conversation with you by giving you different scenarios. For example, how to introduce yourself, how to ask for directions, how to order food in a restaurant, how to buy train tickets and etc. I can give you as many scenarios as possible. You will be given at least 10 vocabularies and 5 verbs to learn during each lesson. You could also be challenged to translate some English sentences to Chinese sentences. I will make it fun for you so you don't feel bored and lose interest quickly.
You will be emailed what you would learn before each lesson and I would request that you look through them at home before the start of each lesson. This helps you to remember the words and make the lesson easier and more enjoyable.
